Cold Nights, Warm Hearts: How Bay of Quinte Melts the Winter Chill

Even as winter grips the Bay of Quinte with its frosty breath, community warmth is proving stronger than the cold. The annual Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser (CONY) isn’t just another winter event—it’s a rallying cry against the harsh reality many face during our long, snowy nights.

Community Spirit Across the Region

From Trenton to Belleville to Napanee, locals are banding together for more than just a brisk 2km or 5km walk and a light supper. CONY shines a spotlight on the struggles of homelessness and food insecurity during our chilliest season, while proving that a tight-knit community can make a huge difference.

Trenton’s Trailblazing Effort

For the first time ever, Trenton joined the CONY celebration to support the Trenton Care and Share Food Bank—a community staple that’s been dishing out emergency food hampers in Quinte West for 40 years. With essential supplies like fresh produce, eggs, meat, and bread, the Food Bank has been a lifeline for many. This year, buoyed by community sponsors such as Connect Quinte Affordable Housing Corporation, County Homes, Murray Centennial Public School, and Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Trenton smashed its $20,000 goal by raising an impressive $45,000.

Belleville’s Heartfelt Contribution

Over in Belleville, the Grace Inn Shelter—a 21-bed refuge open year-round to both men and women—raised $53,000. This isn’t just a temporary stop; it’s a critical resource that offers food, shelter, and the support needed to secure long-term housing. With backing from local favourites like Chilangos, Starbucks, Wellspring Quinte, and Albert College, the Grace Inn is stepping up in a big way.

Napanee’s Overachiever

Napanee’s CONY, hosted by Morningstar Mission, took community support to the next level. Known for its robust programmes tackling both homelessness and food insecurity—from healthy meals to a welcoming warming centre—the Mission not only met its $100,000 goal but exceeded it by raising $100,110. Local champions including Kawartha Credit Union, Mackay Insurance, Peter Boyer Chevrolet Buick GMC, and Canadian Tire played a major role in this success.

A Beacon of Hope in Uncertain Times

As tariffs loom and economic challenges persist, CONY is a timely reminder of the incredible impact community solidarity can have. Whether it’s in Trenton, Belleville, Napanee, or any of the 190 locations across Canada, this fundraiser proves that even on the coldest nights, a community united in support can create a beacon of hope.

Stay warm and keep supporting one another, Bay of Quinte!
