The unofficial start to spring, PEC March Maple Madness, is almost here. Whether March comes in like a lamb or a lion, it promises to be sweet, with fun-filled maple-themed events and activities throughout Prince Edward County every weekend that month.
The County, as it is affectionately known, is home to expansive woodlots rich in maple syrup. As is tradition, the sap is tapped each spring and cooked down in sugar shacks that dot the countryside. Throughout this season, it is not uncommon to see a plume of smoke emanating from one of these buildings tucked away in the woods.

Apart from its cozy aesthetic and opportunity to get the family out of the house, this month-long event offers a chance to experience all the County has to offer.
“PEC March Maple Madness was created during Covid when events were questionable, and people were looking for outdoor things to do. During Covid, Maple in the County was cancelled, so PEC March Maple Madness was formed! This event was created to spread out the large crowds that were often experienced during other local maple events hosted on one weekend, while still allowing Maple Syrup producers to stay in business,” explained Rikki, Coordinator of PEC March Maple Madness.
Rikki further explained some businesses only have maple season as their main income, so could not afford to lose a year.

This year, PEC March Maple Madness has an incredible lineup of sugar shacks participating. Why not indulge in pancakes with fresh local maple syrup at Walt’s Sugar Shack? Meander along to Sugarbush Vineyards, where you’re invited to explore the 2km trail through the vineyard and sugar bush. Warm up by their fire with a cup of hot chocolate before continuing to Justin’s Maple Syrup, where Big Mike’s will be serving a maple madness inspired menu.
Waupoos Estate Winery, Nyman Farms, and Campbell’s Orchard also have a fun-filled lineup of maple themed goodness to partake in.
Restaurants offering maple madness menus include, but are not limited to, The Grange, 555 Brewing Co., and The Waring House. Countless breweries and wineries are also tapping into the thirst for syrup season with a variety of seasonal offerings. From beer at Gillingham Brewery to fine wine at Rosehall Run, there is something for everyone.

The public is invited to create their own itinerary from the dozens of participating maple syrup producers, wineries, breweries, cideries, restaurants and accommodations. With over 70 participating businesses, there is something for everyone.
For those travelling from afar, a variety of Sweet Accommodations are on offer, allowing for more time to stay overnight and explore the next day.
PEC March Maple Madness is an open invitation to explore the rich, local tradition of syrup season while indulging in seasonal goodies. Start spring on the right foot with this annual, maple-themed tradition!
